April's Resin Ball-Jointed Dolls
HYACINTH'S GALLERY

Centaur bjds have been gradually appearing. The first were 1/3 sized or larger! They were HUGE! And heavy! I thought some were lovely, but just couldn't see having to deal with something that large (although, the large dolls really are pretty spectacular!). Then smaller sized dolls were made in increasing numbers and shapes. Soom finally made this 1/4 sized centaur and I couldn't resist.

I had him on layaway, of course! He didn't arrive until July 2014... But he was a Christmas Kit, which means unstrung... and I wanted to paint his body first, but it had really bad seams that I had to sand. Then I had medical problems at the end of the year and all of 2015, justabouts... so it isn't until 2 years later (mid-2016) that I'm finally getting him together enough to take photos and show!

GALLERY

It's been so long since I opened the box, I can't even remember what it looked like! But I think it was a shipper with all the resin parts wrapped well in bubble, and the papers and string and magnets, and that's it. I ordered the OE (Open-Eyed) head painted. No extra parts. The blue horse parts had serious seams. Sanding those down took ages. Then I had to decide how to paint him...

I tried to make him a sort of Snowflake appaloosa, but with actual snowflakes... I didn't manage to make the snowflakes even enough--might add more white paint later... or might not!

One of the first things that got done was to put some Oscar Eyes in! Those glittery Oscar Eyes are just perfect for fantasy sculpts. I knew when I was at Dollism Plus US in 2014 that I wanted some eyes for this boy, so I got some! They do lots of pretty blues.

I also had been looking for blue wigs. I found several. This is one of the darker turquoise wigs that match the color of the clear/painted resin hooves and tail (painted with thalo blue with a touch of thalo green liquid Golden acrylic paint).

The colors are a little skewed in these photos. The color correct in the camera was doing weird things! I think the paint on fetlocks and tail look a bit darker in incandescent light.

Here's the third wig--straight with some purple-pink at the neck.

Had to paint the horn, too. It was a sort of yellowy clear resin. I think resin is naturally sort of yellowy when clear...???

Back in the first wig, with a bit of curl, and a clip-on pony-tail. AND most of his full-set (fs), outfit! (He's got those spat-like things for all 4 legs)

I'm not sure if I like lots of clothing on centaurs or not! But I do think they deserve their own styles to suit their bodies, and Soom's designers are pretty darn good at creating outfits for fantasy dolls.

Came with the necklace, too.

For some reason the wig looked better before!

Close up.

Back to wig 2 and without skirts...

Need to try a different backdrop, but I'm SO lazy!

Should try posing the horse legs a bit better some time, too! But that's all for now!
